Collaborative Biology/Chemistry Student Presentations Win Awards

Juniors Kim Parks (Biology) and Alex Fuchs (Chemistry) were awarded 2nd place at the Eleventh Annual University of Maryland Baltimore County Undergraduate Research Symposium on October 11th, 2008 for their presentation, entitled “Mapping the Binding Region for Histone H3 on Barrier-to-Autointegration-Factor (BAF).” This project is a collaborative effort between Dr. Miriam Segura-Totten in Biology and Dr. Donald Hirsh in Chemistry and is funded through a Merck-AAAS grant.

Senior Kliment Verba (Biology) was awarded 2nd place for his presentation “Multiple Solvent Crystallization Structure of BAF”.  Kliment Verba presented his results from a collaborative project between Dr. Segura-Totten in Biology and Dr. Carla Mattos in the Department of Biochemistry at North Carolina State University. This work is funded in part through an NIH AREA grant to Dr. Segura-Totten.
