Mark Norbury will be graduating in May 2015 with a B.S. in chemistry (ACS certified with research). He will also be graduating with honors. Mark chose to pursue his B.S. in chemistry at TCNJ because he was inspired by his high school chemistry professor whom he had for both honors and AP chemistry. During his time at TCNJ Mark enjoyed doing lab work in all areas of chemistry. In his senior year he joined Dr. Baker’s computational chemistry research group. In Dr. Baker’s group, Mark studied the dynamics of a bacterial protein called pilin, which is implicated in the process of bacterial infection, using molecular modeling and simulation methods. While this research was not easy it was very rewarding and showed Mark a new aspect of chemistry he had never seen before. Working with Dr. Baker was an incredible experience that allowed Mark to understand the many aspects of performing research. Mark intends to start his career in chemistry after graduation. He is currently applying to and interviewing for jobs. Mark hopes to be able to perform lab work that is rewarding and fun.
