The U.S. Committee to International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) awarded Ms. Anne Szklarski, a senior chemistry major at TCNJ, one of the three 2007 IUPAC Poster Prizes. Anne’s poster is on “Enzymatic Synthesis of Dipeptides.” This work was carried out as part of a Research Experience for Undergraduates program in the lab of Dr. Palangpon Kongsaeree at Mahidol University, in Bangkok Thailand and was presented during the Undergraduate Research Poster Session for Biochemistry at the American Chemical Society National Meeting last month. In a letter announcing the award to Anne, Dr. Katherine Bowman of the Board on International Scientific Organizations noted “The committee was particularly impressed both by the research you were able to accomplish during your time in Thailand and by your excellent presentation and discussion of it during the session.” Anne will receive a certificate signed by the President of IUPAC, a copy of the IUPAC Compendium of Chemical Terminology, and a subscription to the IUPAC magazine Chemistry International.
