TCNJ’s Student Chemist Association has been selected by the American Chemical Society to receive one of the national Society’s “Green Chemistry Award” for 2011-2012.
This is a tremendous accomplishment for TCNJ; out of 362 chapter reports submitted, the ACS Green Chemistry Institute® recognized 56 chapters who successfully engaged in three or more green chemistry activities. In addition to recognition in Chemical & Engineering News and the student member magazine inChemistry, the winning Green Chemistry chapters received special recognition in ACS Green Chemistry Institute’s e-newsletter, The Nexus. The Green Chemistry award winning chapters will also be honored at the 245th ACS National Meeting in New Orleans, LA on Sunday, April 7, 2013.
In his award letter, Dr. Berkeley W. Cue, Governing Board Chair of the American Chemical Society’s Green Chemistry Institute, noted the following: “Undergraduate students engaging with the principles of green chemistry today will be the scientists and professionals informing a more sustainable future. The ACS Green Chemistry Institute® Governing Board commends faculty advisors, Professor Benny Chan and Professor Abby O’Connor. Their commitment and mentoring helped the ACS College of New Jersey Student Chapter win this prestigious award. We extend our warmest congratulations to the students and Professors Chan and O’Connor for setting such a fine example for other chapters and being exemplary green chemistry ambassadors!”
